Tweed VS Pea (3 Days of the Condor)

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

tweedVSpea

People were blogging about this a while ago, but I only just got around to re-watching 3 Days of the Condor (a 1975 espionage film starring Robert Redford).  Redford wears some nice clothes, and the movie is great too.

I remember back when I originally saw the film, I wanted Redford’s herringbone tweed jacket.  I was too young and didn’t have the means to buy anything like that at the time.  Well, over the following years, tweed jackets pretty much became the standard uniform of university lecturers – who added suede elbow patches, and tended to make them not as cool anymore.

Anyway, re-watching the film, it’s the Pea Coat which captures my attention (as indigofan readers would expect).  Redford pops the collar on both jackets, the Pea Coat has a much bigger collar, so of course the Pea Coat wins.  Hah.

There’s some other nice things in the wardrobe, like the aviator specs, denim shirt, tweed tie.  The old bronco van is cool too.

Flathead Stadium Jacket – STJ53-BKWH – Knockout BB

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Flathead made this amazing stadium jacket some time ago.  I’m not actually sure when they made it, but it’s definitely sold out now.

Klax-on:

Black version on 2nd:

Melton wool with vegetable tanned horse leather arms.

The script kind of doesn’t make sense, but it actually adds to the character of the jacket.

That’s the way the ball bounce! The chain is not stronger than its weakest.

A left-handed skeleton with a flaming swing.  I love it.

I wonder if Flathead will make this jacket again?

How to Wear a Red MA-1

Buzz Ricksons have an amazing Red MA-1.

It looks amazing, and it looks very loud.  I thought it looks too loud to wear in public.

Hinoya have some fit pics which didn’t change my opinion.

But now that I’ve seen some pictures scanned from the Beams catalog on ACL.

These pics make the jacket look incredibly wearable.  I don’t think I have the style to pull that look off, but some people certainly can.

The Drinkin’ and Dronin’ blog has a feature on the Evisu Deluxe Heritage line

http://drinkinanddronin.wordpress.com/2009/03/30/factory-feature-for-the-evisu-heritage-collection/

These jeans have more detailing than I was aware of.

I didn’t understand the “bluff pocket seam” description, but a bit more googleing got me there.

The pocket is sewn on from the inside, as I believe you can see in the photograph above.

Here are some detailed descriptions and shots of the Evisu Deluxe denim jacket on five-secondskin.

He’s also got the jeans here.

Fugitive Denim

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

This books sounds interesting

From Azerbaijan to New York City, a human-scale view of global trade. In the business of making and selling clothes, “Made in” labels do precious little to convey the constellation of treaties, countries, and people at work in the assembly of a simple pair of jeans. In Fugitive Denim journalist Rachel Louise Snyder reports from the far reaches of this multi-billion-dollar industry in search of the real people who make your clothes. From a cotton picker in Azerbaijan to a Cambodian seamstress, a denim maker in Italy to a fashion designer in New York, Snyder captures the human, environmental, and political forces at work in a dizzyingly complex and often absurd world. In a disarming and humorous voice, she ponders questions of equity, sweatshops, and corporate social responsibility through narratives of individual people, making an often academic subject accessible and compelling. Neither polemic nor prescription, Fugitive Denim captures what it means to be at work in the world in the twenty-first century.

I personally think that the cover design is shit.  The Japanese version of the book has a much better cover.

I wonder if there is a difference in quality to justify the difference in price.

Super Dad’s Style

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

I’ve been posting less recently because of some big events in my life.

My baby daughter was born just over one week ago.

She’s a lot of fun, and a lot of work.

Anyway, I’ll be posting more indigofan stuff soon, and I’ll clean up the blog with the migration to the new system.
